Brendan Rodrigues is fast establishing himself as one of the go to magicians on the upmarket London party scene. With his unique style of magic, it's taken us nearly three years to talk him into doing this project, but it's finally here! All of Brendan's magic is visual, snappy and immediate. Best of all there are NO CARD TRICKS INVOLVED.

This is "Visualize":

Crystal Ball Opener - A stunning crystal ball routine that is both magical and mystifying. Techniques taught include which balls to use, care and attention, palm spin, The Enigma Move, The Push Thru, The Vibration, The Invisible Thread and The Amazing Droplet Productions. It's the perfect opener!

Elasticated Energy - Brendan's take on Crazy Man's handcuffs with his amazing Interweave finish explained in detail. The perfect end to any rubber band routine.

The Coins - A multi-phase coin routine featuring flourishes and the brilliant 5 coin challenge that is both amazing and easy to do!

The Pen & Heart - Another signature piece using just two sponge hearts and one pen. The most visual transposition routine ever, followed by an engaging heart routine that the ladies love!

Pen Flourishing - Brendan explains his pen flourishing techniques for the first time including the multi-pen-catch into the vanish and reappearance of the pens visually before their eyes. Mind popping magic at it's best!

3D Printing - Brendan's prized competition winning routine

Red Light Pen - just a regular d'lite and pen create an eye popping piece of magic

Flourish Section - Using Pens, Coins and Finger Rings, Brendan shows you all the detail

Overview

Visualize by Brendan Rodriques and RSVP is a potpourri of flourishes that utilizes a juggling contact ball, pens, coins, rings and rubber bands. Although not really magic, it can look magical. Unlike magic which will transport the spectator to another dimension of reality, these are more of a display of skill on the part of the performer.

Effect

Various flourishes are shown and explained on this DVD. Fancy moves of balls floating in mid-air, rubber linking and unlinking and transpositions are the performances de-jour on this 1 hour and 20 minute video.

Method

The methods involved obviously are sleight of hand, of which you would need to devote months to learn

Product Quality

The video is average in quality as far as the photography, lighting and sound. Unfortunately, almost as much time was spent with numerous and repetitive live footage that it diminished the potential of the DVD. The explanations were quickly run through and on such complex handlings it would have been more appropriate to cut back on the live footage and devote more time to the requisite handling of the routines.

Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy states very little. It espouses how much time was expended to entice him to do the DVD and touts his expertise. It then goes on to list the effects. For those looking to do pen spinning, ring manipulation, contact ball juggling and other flourishes, it might serve you well to get sources that specifically address the area of your interest. Move along son, there isn’t much to see here.

PROS

This is really creative, out there, stuff! Really stunning and unique. The entire DVD is about manipulation with a wide variety of items, ranging from balls to pens to coins to rings to rubberbands.

Even though I am not really into manipulation, I learned a few good things that I’m going to work on.

Everything is well taught.

CONS

Most of this stuff is going to take some serious practice.

The difficulty ranges from somewhat difficult to very difficult.

VERDICT

Great, unique, creative stuff!

Right out of the box this DVD was not quite what I expected it to be, but that was not a bad thing necessarily.

There are only a few effects on this DVD as far as magic is concerned. The other 'effects' on here are more ideas on how to use certain things and which are not taught in detail, so because you can learn just by watching what he is doing.

The bulk of the DVD is more of a flourish-type DVD that shows you things that you can incorporate into your magic sets/shows. Brendan goes over everything a few times so that you understand it, but none of it will come without some heavy practice.

Things like the Pen & Heart, The Coins and the Pen Flourishing routine are very visual and you can get a lot of mileage out of things like these. In my opinion, while Brendan does everything on this DVD very well, some of his performances were just a tad too fast. If he slowed some of them down just a little, I think they would become even more appreciable.

That said, since a lot of the material here can only be accomplished with significant practice, there is only so much that Brendan can teach you. He covers certain things in depth, and others he gives you only a cursory explanation with alternative learning sources - mostly because the teaching of these things is beyond the scope of this DVD (such as the Palm Spin technique in contact juggling, used in his opener).

At first, Brendan is joined by Lee Smith for an explanation or two, and then after that, you never see Lee again. The lighting and the video quality were excellent and the menu was very well laid out. The audio quality varied throughout the DVD, but nothing that would hinder learning/understanding the explanations.

The ad copy is 100% accurate and the price point for this DVD, in my opinion and for what it is, is just right.

The style of magic that Brendan displays is unique among magicians and what he teaches is something different from your usual 'all-tricks' DVDs. If you are looking for alternative ideas for things to add into your shows or your work, you will likely find plenty of ideas here.
