Flourishes are a strange thing. It’s not quite magic, but it’s also not quite juggling. There are some really smart creators of this new kind of performance art that are coming up with some really cool looking moves and sequences.

I wasn’t expecting to be impressed with this, but it really surprised me. If you like to cut the cards into twenty packets at 20 rotations a minute, then this is something you will enjoy. There are some really flashy flourishes, cuts, shuffles, color changes, and ace productions.

My only problem with this DVD is the variation of the top change taught on it. It makes no sense and takes away all the benefits of doing a top change. I’m not going to go into a rant about how wrong this ‘version’ of the move is, because part of me thinks it’s supposed to be a joke. All I’ll ask is that you please ignore this part.

However, I’ll admit I was a flourisher in my early teens and there were parts that made me pick up a deck and try to learn the moves. I was unsuccessful with most of the material. Luckily, there were also some easy sequences that helped me not feel so bad.

The instruction is all silent, but the teaching is thorough and makes sure to give you multiple angles to give you the best teaching experience possible. It’s extremely well shot, well edited, and well produced. Much of the DVD is in black and white, which may be a nuisance to some of you, but it worked for me.

If you are looking to learn deceptive, elegant card magic, you’ll want to skip this. However, if you want real knuckle busters that will keep you busy for a while, this is worth your consideration.
