This subplot of magic - that is to say, the bill change - has been explored seemingly forever and many different variations have come to light in that time.
On the DVD "The Outlaw Magic of Lonnie Chevrie, Vol. 2" there is an effect called 'Grandpa's Dollar' in which the bill visually changes with the banknote fully open and not folded. I mention this because though Skullkracker is different from that one in handling (and in some of the variations, in appearance), the change itself is of the same visual nature or the same style.
With Skullkracker you show the bill and fold it in half length-wise and as the bill is held between the fingertips of both hands, it is moved in a short, upward motion and is visually seen to transform into another bill.
Depending on the condition of the bills you will be using for the preparation, the set-up is quite easy. Just like the Chevrie version, this effect can be done anytime that you have the prepared bill on you.
The actual effect is not hard to execute but it will take practice in making it smooth. Everything takes place in your hands with 'nothing extra' except the prepared bill. To that end, everything that the ad copy claims is 100% true - very refreshing to see even though it is by now and older product.
Bob Sheets is an excellent performer and teacher and with the studio-quality video and audio on this disc, everything is very, very well explained. Some of the variations on the change itself are really neat, such as being able to make the picture of a dignitary on a bill visually grow larger, or even shrink! Bob is joined in the studio by Tim Trono for the explanations and Tim does an excellent job of asking Bob many different questions as may be posed by the viewers. Bob does an equally great job of answering them.
If you already perform a different version of the bill change you may likely not be motivated to switch over to this one, but if you are in the market for a great version, this will not disappoint. I quite like it myself because you will have a different approach to the plot, you will gain some nifty ideas for presentations and some different handlings to go along with it.
