Dirty Deal

Cervon, Bruce and Hallas, Paul

(Based on 1 review)
The classic packet trick from Bruce Cervon with a great display finish. The card backs constantly change and are tabled until you end up with every single back being a different back design!

For as long as this trick has been around, I'm surprised that no one has reviewed it-so, please allow me...

Ken Brooke was so impressed with this trick, that he bought and owned the rights for quite a few years. Martini Magic currently owns it, and hopefully has rescued it from some of the more garish past renditions of the cards themselves (oh, I've seen 'em-cards with beer ads, horses, butterflies, and..nudie girls!). Despite having seen ads for the trick, as well as the 'garish versions' in magic estate sale collections-I only recently decided to read and get the effect-just to see what all the ruckus was about. Well, it'd have to be some solid ruckus, considering who created it.

The plot has four of a kind changing back designs four times. Anyone familiar with James Swain's 'Capitulating Queens', will appreciate this 'horse of a different color' effect. The entire routine is not as daunting as I'd first thought-and repeats the same count, courtesy of Bro. John, again, four times. The finale, goes beyond 'Capitulating Queens', as the final four cards completely change backs, to all different designs.

By the time all 9 cards laid out, the viewer is treated to the colorful and impossible spectacle of every single card having a different back color and design. It truly IS a spectacle, and quite accessable to an intermediate card worker. Martini's instructions clarify both the setup, and reset, quite handily. After a few trials, both become easy to remember. There was only one card that I saw fit to change, as it's back design called more attention to itself than the others.

Once understood, one may remake the entire, adding even more color than the cards come with. Thanks to Youtube, it's easy to find demo's of this trick, which may help clarify why the thing has stood the test of time. This is definitely a classic which any viewer would have no choice but to remember-with or without, beerads, horses, and nudie girls.
