QuartOkito Coin Box

Viking

(Based on 1 review)
Borrow a quarter. Stick a round white label on both sides of the coin. The spectator signs one of the stickers; you sign the other. Place the doubly marked coin into a very thin brass box and cover it with a lid. The lid has a hole bored through it, so the marked coin is visible at all times.Remove the lid and allow the box to drop into the spectator's waiting hand. The marked coin has vanished in mid-air. Show the little brass box absolutely empty; your hands are empty as well.

I love my QuartOkito box. It has three features that make it uniquely useful: 1. Whereas most Okito boxes have a deep recess in the top that holds four quarters, the QuartOkito box has a shallow recess that holds only a single quarter. 2. The lid of the box has a hole so that the coin inside the top recess is visible at all times. 3. The box also has a special feature found in Boston boxes. I don't want to expose this special feature, but if you know about Boston boxes you will understand.

These features make it possible to vanish or switch a coin very cleanly. I do a routine where a quarter is initialed and put in the box, where it remains visible through the hole in the lid. Then a nest of boxes (or nest of wallets or Quarter Go box) is brought out and set nearby. The coin then suddenly and visibly vanishes from the QuartOkito box. The spectator opens the nest of boxes (I don't go anywhere near the nest after the quarter vanishes) and the initialed coin is found inside. The routine is very clean, fairly easy, and totally mystifying to non-magicians. It's explained in the excellent instructions that Viking includes with the QuartOkito box.
