Overview

Many individuals in the magic arena say that a magician / mentalist should always have something on them to perform at a moment’s notice. Though many magicians feel “safe” in using the excuse that they have nothing with them, it is hard for a mentalist to use the same excuse because all you need is another person’s mind, which in most cases they usually have with them. Mental Voyage produces numerous pocketable mentalism effects that are easily carried, effective and leaves you looking like the mind reader you claim to be. Leisure by Mental Voyage is one of those effects you can put in your wallet and when someone challenges you to “read their mind”, you can. If you are looking for portable mentalism and do not want to be hampered down by mathematics or extensive memory work, Leisure is just about the easiest mentalism routine you can do.

Effect

The performer approaches a group of individuals and strikes up a conversation about telepathy. They all doubt that such a thing exists. The performer then takes out an official looking card from The Institute of Parapsychology and proposes a little test. Two are asked to think of a number between 1 and 20 and the third is asked to think of a number from 1-8. They are then asked to look at a word that is associated with their number. One by one, the performer looks at each individual and reveals a series of thoughts they had while focusing on their word. The performer is correct in all three cases.

Method

The method is not a new method in mentalism but Paul Carnazzo reduced the footprint of the routine down from an unwieldy letter sized page to just a small card that can fit in a credit card slot of your wallet or a shirt pocket if you wish. The card is designed to “force” each spectator to a specific idea which can be revealed as the performer wishes. Leisure requires no mathematics and all the performer needs to is remember three basic themes.

Product Quality

The quality of the card is excellent. It is the width of a credit card but about 30% taller. The plastic is thin enough if you wanted to carry multiple effects in “The Institute” line in a single credit card slot. The card should last a lifetime if not abused. It is soil and water proof as well. The instruction is 7 pages long and includes a simulated routine, script and all. In addition, there are two additional bonus routines that are based on concepts from Banachek’s Psychological Subtleties Volume 1 book.
