I bought the first three videos as VHS tapes when they first came out. I had just gotten home from a short trip fairly late at night, when I found that the package had arrived in the mail. My ex went straight to bed, but I made the mistake of thinking that I would pop the first video in the VCR and watch the first trick or two, and then I'd go to bed. Several hours later I was still awake because I just had to watch all three videos. I was exhausted the next day, and it was so worth it. When new volumes came out, I was concerned that the quality might go down. That concern proved to be unfounded. I think these are the best card magic videos ever produced. The choice of material is simply stellar, Ammar's teaching is clear and meticulous, and the over-the-shoulder “Super Practice Sessions” make everything much easier to learn.
Now, let me mention a few personal highlights on Vol. 6:
Close-up Illusion – This excellent routine by Larry Jennings looks like trick photography. I think the “I Hate David Copperfield” presentation by Geoff Williams, which can be found on his Miracles for Mortals #1 DVD, is a lot of fun.
Play It Straight Triumph – A modern classic of card magic by John Bannon. One of the real strengths of the routine is that the audience can see the cards really get mixed face-up into face-down. You might also want to check out Brad Henderson’s presentation for the routine on his Penguin Live Act lecture.
Jumping Gemini – Another modern classic of card magic, this one by Darwin Ortiz. This impromptu 4-card packet effect is, well, strong!
Impossible – I had the honor of performing this Larry Jennings effect for Jerry Andrus on one of his birthdays. I used Jerry’s name instead of the word “impossible” for the revelation. Jerry was kind enough to tell me that he liked the routine and that it had fooled him.
Card on Forehead – Lay people can’t help but laugh when they finally see their signed card on your forehead. This is classic routine can play for kids as well as adults.
To finish this review, if you are into card magic and don't have all of the DVDs in this series, I think you should get them ASAP! I really don't think you should buy any other magic resources until you get them. It might even be possible to make a living just with the magic on these DVDs. They are that good.
This series is the GOAT of card magic instructional videos.
