CREATIVE WEEKLY VOL. 2 LIMITED

Julio Montoro

(Based on 2 reviews)
Introducing you, Montoro's exclusive project: Creative Weekly Volume 2.

In 2020, Julio Montoro decided to release a new monthly subscription in Spain to share his creations with all his Spanish followers. It was just a 1 year project, but it was a total success, with almost 900 Spanish magicians joining the subscription, learning 52 effects that Montoro specifically created for them.

Now, in 2022, Julio Montoro has decided to share this project with all his international friends in a really exclusive way.

Only 400 units will be printed every single month during 1 year. This means that only 400 magicians around the globe will only be able to know how Montoro's mind really works.

This is what you are going to get in Volume 1:
  • United: a torn and restored business card which ends with an impossible souvenir.
  • Sandwich Club: the impromptu sandwich routine that Julio has been performing for many years.
  • Senses: A routine with two incredible gimmicks to play with the senses of your spectator.
  • A million dollar trick: a visual effect created by Juan Capilla to change a lottery ticket into a dollar bill.
All these effects are now available at only $19,95, that is less than $5 a week.

Every single month, you're going to learn how to construct 4 awesome tricks, which comes in a tutorial inside a beautiful packaging, which is numbered and signed by Julio Montoro himself.

You will also include materials that you are going to need to construct all four week's effects.

Of course, you will not only learn gimmicked effects, but also at least one impromptu trick every month.

Be one of the 400 hundred magicians that will ever be able to learn all these effects and collect all 12 months.

Get creative weekly in your magic shop before it sells out!

Overview

Creative Weekly is a $20 monthly project in which you get a password protected link to an instructional video in a nicely designed envelope that teaches a small handful of tricks and contains the necessary materials to do the arts and crafts work.

I like the idea of this project, but for this volume (#2) I think the tricks could have been stronger and the production could have been better.

Only 400 copies per month makes it seem a bit more special that it actually is.

Effect

Montoro teaches 4 effects and for me only 1 is worthwhile. The instructional video is about an hour and 13 minutes and consists of Montoro looking into a camera with some alternate views.

The first effect, United, is an underwhelming torn and restored business card trick that requires significant arts and crafts work ahead of time and is just not for me. Using a Starbucks business card, Montoro rips it in half and then fuses it together in an off angle. Overall, I would give this trick 1 out of 5 because when you hand out the restored "fused" card the spectators will come to the conclusion that the card was glued together and although they will not know how and when that happened - they are not going to be so far off. What really bugged me about eth presentation of this trick was that Montoro forces you to sit though a long gimmick construction instruction before you have any idea what the trick is like in actuality.

The second effect is the winner of the 4 tricks. It is an impromptu Club Sandwich trick called Sandwich Club. It is impromptu, it is fantastic and this is something that I would do. It requires the use of sleight of hand and is a well-thought out card trick by the then 15 year old Montoro. Well done! I would give that trick 4.5 out of 5.

The third trick, Senses, requires a ton of arts and crafts work to make the 2 gimmicks. In a second, it is a disappearing card trick that appears in a previously empty card box. I won't make these gimmicks or perform this because I think it is not a trick that I would want to perform due to the significant limitations of examining the cards. I think this is a better social media trick. Not for me. I would give this a 3 out of 5 for those who like making extensive gimmicks for tricks that last a few seconds.

The final trick, Million Dollar Trick is another social media trick. Not for close-up or real people. You flick a lottery card and it turns into a 5 dollar bills. Nothing can be inspected and it is just not for a close-up worker.

Method

Each of the tricks use different methods. Heavy on the gimmick construction, with the exception of the Sandwich Club which is all sleight of hand. Again, too much gimmick work for the bang that you get and the environment that you can use it in.

Product Quality

I was disappointed in the production quality. The audio sound levels fluctuated, the focus of the video went in and out and the necessary close-ups were not present. At one point Montoro calls himself "stupid" several times for making a mistake in one of the gimmick's and he left that in the video and did not re-shoot it. Not a professional product in that regard.

Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy states:

Volume two of Julio Montoro's super-creative monthly project. Only 400 of this limited release set were created.

What is "Creative Weekly"?
In 2020, Julio Montoro created a special subscription program. It ran for one year, with the visual magic master introducing a new close-up magic trick each week. In total, 52 incredible effects were made available to the just shy of 1,000 subscribers in Spain.

Now, for the first time, magicians anywhere in the world can enjoy these amazing effects with the "Creative Weekly" series. These one-of-a-kind collector's sets will be printed on a monthly basis and limited to just 400 copies per volume.

There are four effects in each set. All of which are fun to perform and usually very visual.

You will get all necessary materials to construct each one and access to in-depth video tutorials that teach you how to create and use them. In addition to gimmicked magic, at least one impromptu effect will be included in each set. "Creative Weekly" comes in beautiful packaging signed and numbered by Julio.

"Creative Weekly - Volume 2" Includes
United: a torn and restored business card that ends with an impossible souvenir

Sandwich Club: one of Julio's favorite impromptu sandwich routines that he's been performing for years
Million Dollar Trick: Juan Capilla's super visual transformation of a lottery ticket into a dollar bill
Senses: Play with your spectator's senses using these two incredible gimmicks

Offered at a super low price, "Creative Weekly" breaks down to being less than the price of a sandwich per week (or about the price of a cup of coffee if you live in New York City). But you don't have to wait a week in-between tricks like Julio's subscribers did. You can learn all four effects as soon as your package arrives.

Don't miss your chance to be one of just a few hundred magicians that will ever have a chance to learn these effects. Continue your quest to own all 12 "Creative Weekly" volumes today, by securing a copy of "Creative Weekly - Vol. 2".

Final Thoughts

This is a pass for me based upon this one volume - Montoro promises in the video that Volume 3 is going to be incredible...maybe I would change my min if I reviewed that one.

Overview

Somewhere along the way the "limited edition" concept was introduced into the magic arena. I could be wrong but I first noticed it with the publication of mentalism books. At one point magicians decided they will also come out with "limited edition" effects as well. Of course, this is done to create a sense of urgency for those who must have something no one else has and drive them to pony up their money to get this "rare" effect. Creative Weekly by Julio Montoro is one of those limited releases which for the life of me, I can't understand why.

Effect

With Creative Weekly you get the pleasure of constructing 4 gimmicks to perform 4 effects included with the downloadable instructions. The effects are explained in the ad copy.

Method

The method is through the use of gimmicks which have to be constructed by the purchaser.

Product Quality

What you receive for your $20 is about 15 cents worth of material and a 1 hour and 12 minute download on how to construct the gimmicks. Of course there is an brief explanation on the performance as well. the instructional is thorough and no detail is left out. the filming and sound are good and one should have no trouble following the instructions.

Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy is accurate and does explain that you will be constructing the gimmicks.
