Overview
4D Rubik by Tora Magic is the perfect gag magic gift to give to your magic friends. Imagine the look on their faces when they actually try prepare, assemble and perform this Trojan Horse of a magic trick. It would be more fun than the proverbial barrel of monkeys. There is so much wrong with this trick I don’t know where to start. I guess I should start with a thank you to Jeff Stone who took on the task of assembling part of the gimmick. At least I was spared that bit of it.Effect
The performer shows a black and white Rubik cube illustration in a frame. He pulls it out of the frame and it automatically gets colorized. He then pops out a “real” Rubik’s cube from the illustration.Method
The method involves a gimmicked frame using a white version of black art. The cube produced is a printed and folded paper version of a cube which attempts to imitate a real cube as it expands.Product Quality
I never owned a Tora Magic product and by looking at this release I can safely say I never will buy one. The entire project is lackluster from the quality of the props to the video instruction. The frame itself is not easy to assemble. There is a white partition that has to go between the black and white cube and the colored portion behind it. The frame is so narrow and tight that there is little room to navigate the partition between the two layers.The pop up gimmick, from what I am gathering from Jeff Stone’s review was incredibly difficult to assemble. That part, once assembled has to be put behind the colorized portion of the assembly. Once this is all done you are set to perform. The insert which is now loaded in the frame is so tight it cannot be removed without there being some obvious difficulty. Finally, once the frame is out and the cube “produced” it doesn’t look like a cube at all. It looks like a paper doll cutout version of a cube. Very sad indeed. Last but not least is the incredibly pixelated, poorly filmed and inaudible video instructions.
Ad Copy Integrity
The trailer for the trick misleadingly shows a real cube being produced. This is one of the most blatant false advertising I have seen. Tora should be embarrassed to have his name on this product.(Top ▲)

The effect is that a black and white drawing of a Rubik's Cube becomes visually colored in. Then the colored drawing pops off the page and becomes a "real" cube.Method
First of all, the coloring of the cube is an old arts and crafts principle that's been around forever and is a good method. However, as you'll see in the "Product Quality" section below, there is a major problem.The second effect of the cube appearing uses a compressible cube which as you'll see in the "Ad Copy Integrity" section is a big fat lie.
Product Quality
If you don't plan on doing the appearing cube, and are only doing the coloring of the cube, then the gimmick works fine. However, when the cube is loaded in the gimmick, it works like crap. The inner card gets stuck in the window sleeve.The instruction video is just shy of 8 minutes long with terrible audio quality that barely teaches anything. The first thing they show you is how to put the rubber band into the collapsing cube. The problem is that the one used in the video had parts of it removed. Having this part removed makes it much easier to put the rubber band into the cube. However, the way the cube is designed, the only way to remove what they removed is to destroy the cube. The video does not explain how to put the rubber band in a functioning gimmick, only a partially destroyed gimmick, and even then the video literally does not show you how to do it.
The blocking and awkwardness of the camera and the performer's hand complete blocks you from seeing anything, literally. You cannot see how to put the rubber band on.
When I put mine on, it was on a non-destroyed gimmick which drastically hinders the process. Then on top of that, since I couldn't see exactly how he did it in the video, I was kind of flying blind. Further, due to the nature of the design of the cube, you can't see inside of it to see what you're doing, so I was kind of doing by feel. I practically destroyed my gimmick trying to get the rubber band it. I also destroyed my blood pressure and calm, cool, and collected exterior appearance.
Lastly, placing the inner cardboard into the outer sleeve requires some finesse and a crucial piece of information that is not clearly explained in the video.
Ad Copy Integrity
The Ad Copy is where this thing really falls apart. In the trailer, the first appearance of the cube shows a cube pop up into the air and fall down into the magician's hands. He then immediately begins twisting and turning the cube because the cube in his hands is a normal cube. However, the cube that pops up and lands in your hand is NOT a normal cube. I have no problem with having to switch the cube, but the trailer leaves the impression that a real cube is what actually appears.A lot of reviewers will fight me on this by saying things like "obviously the trailer shows the 'effect' on the audience, not the actual method. When you buy the trick, there is a method . . . "
Of course there is, but the trailer leads you to believe that the method allows for a real cube to appear, and there are methods to that, so it's not an unreasonable expectation, especially considering that the trailer all but states that this will happen.
The final performance at the end of the video shows the cube appearing. This time it really is the actual cube that will appear. However, the magician then hands the cube out to the spectator. Again, this is complete B.S. The cube cannot be handed out to a spectator.

Final Thoughts
If you think the coloring of the cube will be useful to you, then by all means spend your $20 bucks on that. Just know that you will not be able to do the cube appearance in the same performance. A friend of mine once said "go into your bathroom with a stack of hundred dollar bills. Then one at a time, start peeling them off and dropping them in the toilet, flushing every few hundred dollars. When you feel comfortable doing that, then you're ready to buy a boat."If you don't mind flushing cash down the crapper, then this product is for you.
Final Verdict: .5 stars with a Stone Status of complete and utter RUBBLE!
