While it might look like a card trick at first, "Big Picture" is anything but. It is a fun piece of mentalism from Kyle Purnell that you'll want to perform everywhere you go.

You start by introducing the "Big Picture" deck and explaining how it helps you practice reading minds. Each card features a different word. You allow a volunteer to look at the words one by one and simply think of one. This freely chosen word perfectly matches a drawing on a prediction that has been in clear view the entire time.

There are no peeks or any need to have them write anything down. They can freely choose any word they see. Kyle Purnell is known for inventing wildly creative magic and "Big Picture" might just be one of his most clever routines yet.

"Big Picture" is super easy to perform. The custom deck of Bicycle-quality playing cards it comes with does nearly everything for you. You won't need to master any difficult sleight of hand. Overview

Mentalists and mentalism tend to be on the “heavy side”. Of course I don’t mean physically heavy but the presentations tend to be weighted down with seriousness. Big Picture by Kyle Purnell is a prediction effect which is light hearted and friendly enough to use as an ice-breaker for a small group of people or as an appetizer to set the tone for you as a performer.

Effect

The performer tells a group of people that he is trying to learn how to read minds. Of course he can’t start out with the hard stuff but he is trying to ease his way in with some easy mind reading. He states he has made a prediction
and displays a deck of cards with words on them. He asks one of the participants to think of one of the words that are being shown. The participant does and the performer pulls his prediction from under the cellophane card case sleeve and places it face down. He then asks which word was chosen, and pulls that card out from the deck. The two cards are turned over, the two halves of both the card chosen by the participant and the prediction made by the performer complete a picture of the chosen word.

Method

Using a method similar to the invisible deck and in combination with cleverly thought of and “drawn” pictures, the prediction effect is very convincing. There is very little sleight of hand and the hardest part would be separating two cards without the appearance of any difficulty. The deck itself is virtually self-working and the presentation would fit just about anybody’s style.

Product Quality

The deck is printed by the Bicycle Playing Card Company so there are no quality issues there. The trick requires three cards to be housed under the cellophane sleeve and I found this to be unusually tight. On normal decks, I usually have three cards housed there and it isn’t so tight so you might have to switch out the tuck box for a traditional tuck box. Also, I did find separating the cards a bit difficult but with a little use it should get easier. The cards are very well designed and the appearance of a completed picture is convincing. The instructional video is 34 minutes long and covers everything one would need to know to perform the trick. The lighting, sound, video and pacing of the video are all excellent and there are a couple of handlings offered.

Ad Copy Integrity

I find that the ad copy is accurate and it definitely is a light hearted “prediction” effect that would be suitable in just about any venue.
