The Show

Aragon, Woody

Vanishing Inc.

(Based on 1 review)
Many magicians recognize the power of a memorized deck, but in The Show, Woody gives us an entire act based around one simple stack. With the deck set in order at the beginning, you are able to perform an entire show of card material, with each trick better than the last, and each trick different from the one before.

Woody Aragon is a master magician, and he understands the necessary components of a powerful act. Drama, variety, and a natural build are required to get people to leap to their feet. In The Show, you will possess all of these components, with each trick setting up the next. You'll learn:

The Blushing Card: In a blue deck, any named card changes to a red backed card, and then a second named card changes.

Card at Name: A spectator names any card and then their name is spelled, one card per letter. The named card is discovered on the last letter.

Top or Bottom: A named card is not there... and then it is!

Rub-A-What?: A quick routine of visual transformations and appearances.

"Eish" of Diamonds: A comedy routine with a surprise ending.

Texas Hold 'em: A Poker exhibition full of twists and surprises.

Mnemo-fry: One of Woody's signature effects. The deck is shuffled by a spectator and he picks a packet of cards. The magician guesses every card.

TeleTriumph II: A whole act in itself. Woody has combined several effects into one long, astounding routine.

Running time: 2 hours 47 minutes

Overview

The Show by Woody Aragon is a complete performance set from start to finish utilizing Woody’s personal memorized deck stack. If you never learned a memorized deck stack before or struggled with other stacks, you might want to give this one a try. One advantage to Woody’s Memorandum stack is that you can perform killer card magic using only the top 26 cards of his stack.

Effect

This DVD features a complete show of eight tricks based on Woody Aragon’s Memorandum stack. Utilizing the cyclical nature of his stack, one trick flows into the other seamlessly without a lot of setup or resetting. Each trick has been designed to be more impressive than the previous trick culminating in a near impossible mental triumph.

Method

The tricks depend on one’s ability to recall the card(s) associated with each number (1-52) and naturally recalling each number associated with every given card. The only slights needed are false shuffles and cuts and a double lift. The ability to cut off packet of cards with the certainty of knowing how many cards you are cutting off will help as well.

Product Quality

The Show is a great value if someone wants to create a mem-deck routine and didn’t know where to begin. However, The Show has one big flaw in it which I find annoying. In the 2 hour and 47 minute DVD, no effort is expended on how to memorize the stack. Although the stack order is given, and how one gets into that order from a freshly opened deck, no information was given on how one may memorize the stack. In his book Memorandum, he has full page drawings of most (not all) of the cards and some mnemonics on memorizing their position. I can’t see why they weren’t included as a PDF on this disc to make it more complete. As far as the photography, sound, instructional quality, they are all very good.

Ad Copy Integrity

What you get is exactly as advertised. You will get Woody Aragon’s performance pieces explained in a thorough step by step manner in his own self-effacing style. The Show delivers as promised.

Final Thoughts

I think The Show is a great DVD. If you were to put the time in to learn the stack and the tricks, you will have a self-contained one hour show with a single deck of cards. Woody Aragon is my favorite card magician, but by not reviewing some methods on how to memorize his stack diminished this release in my mind.
