Fade

You've never seen a 3-Card Monte quite like this.

Fade is Chris Mayhew's in-the-hands three card monte, that uses 3 cards and the rest of the deck. If the 3 Card Monte and Colour Changing Deck had a child. They would name it Fade and Chris Mayhew would have to babysit.

If you've ever wanted to perform a 3 Card Monte and get explosive reactions from people, then you need to learn Fade.

With no overt movements, no false throws - in fact, with seemingly no movement at all - Chris manages to come out one step ahead of his spectator every single time.

Finding the Queen has never been so elusive, so beautiful and so deceptively unexpected.

Chris Mayhew is one of my favorite young magic performers. He is a rare combination of a very creative, relaxed guy and a very entertaining magician.

His effect Fade is a beautiful and fresh 3 card monte routine. A lot can be learned from this routine and about structure and trick construction. Each phase has multiple magical moments created by minimal sleights.

If you watch the preview you get a good look at what the routine is. There are a couple tough sleights to learn, they are not necessarily knuckle busting but the idea is to do them invisibly while all attention is on your hands. The psychological challenges with this can be easily sorted through thorough practice. My recommendation would be to tackle the routine with a slow steady pace. It's tough to remember the sequence of the moves from time to time so you really need to get it down so that it is second nature. When performing the actual sleights just perform them slow and deliberately, fluidity will come with time.

So as far as pros go it doesn't use any gimmicks, you don't need a table, and you are left with a regular deck after the trick.

The cons are that it's a little tough, the set-up is extensive and the deck is not clean before the trick starts.

I think that for those who put in the time they will have a very cool trick. Over all the performances and explanations were enjoyable and even if you don't perform the routine in its entirety you will have a couple new sleights to add to your arsenal.
