Reconnect Review

One DVD, one trick, $25 bucks and one Reconnect Review. Is it gem or is it rubble? Stay tuned to find out.

Reconnect Review: Effect

A torn and restored card.

Reconnect Review: Method

The method relies on a gimmick that will take you about 4 or 5 minutes, if that, to make along with a little bit of acting skills. The gimmick a bit awkward to keep in your deck when you're not doing this particular effect, so you'll want to add it to your deck before doing the effect. The method is pretty easy, but there are a lot of fishy things happening. In just about every handling, you have to handle the two torn pieces in such a way that it's clear that there is something not quite right. Make sure you watch my video review of this so that can see what I mean.

One thing that may appeal to you is that the method is such that a card is never actually torn. You basically switch the selected card for an already torn card. That being said, the advantage is that you never have to ruin your cards. You can do this effect an infinite amount of times with the same deck without ever having to replenish anything. The only limitation is just the normal wear and tear of your deck.

Reconnect Review: Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy is fine. However, I feel that the trailer doesn't show enough. They really should have shown the full performance from start to finish. Too much is cut out of the trailer. I don't think it was an effort to be dishonest, but rather more of an artistic choice. Showing the whole effect would not have exposed anything, but it would have given you a much better picture of what the effect looks like.

But since they didn't show you, you'll have to take my word for it that it doesn't look very clean. It just looks a little "not right." I, likely, will not be doing a performance in the video review because I don't feel as though my handling is performance ready. However, I'm basing my statement of it's fishy-ness on seeing Marcus Eddie (the creator) doing it.

Reconnect Review: Product Quality

The production value is decent. The teaching is good overall. However, I feel that there were a couple of places that could have benefited from a little bit more clarity and in-depth-ness. For example, no attention was given to how to get the gimmick in and/or out of the deck. Further, some finer points on handling the deck while the gimmick is in the deck would have been very useful.

Reconnect Review: Final Thoughts

I would say that if you like the effect, you will (or won't) like this product. The problem is, you don't ever really get a chance to see the effect. However, let's just assume that you did see the effect, and you liked it. The next question is the method. The method's pretty solid, but as mentioned, it requires a gimmick that can't really sit in your deck too long without using it. Lastly, $25 for one trick with no props/gimmicks/etc. is a bit steep.

Final Verdict:
3 Stars with a Stone Status of gem with a small g.
