Overview

The Deluxe Nest of Wallets by Nick Einhorn and Alan Wong is an extremely lightweight and portable “Item to Impossible Location” effect that is not only entertaining but baffling as well. The Deluxe Nest of Wallets bring the stage version Nest of Boxes to the realm of the walk around performer.

Effect

The performer borrows a coin from a spectator. It is signed and with a little flourish it disappears. The performer looks around to see if he had dropped it but alas the coin cannot be found. Sadly, he must use his own coin to continue and pulls out as small wallet from his pants pocket. Inside that small wallet is another smaller wallet and inside the second is a third smaller yet. Inside the third wallet is a small red cloth which when opened, holds the lost signed coin. This is just one of several different versions you can perform. Anything that will fit in the small wallet can be used such as a ring and a bill.

Method

The method makes use of three cleverly designed leather wallets which when assembled correctly will allow you to perform this miracle. It truly is inconceivable how the coin can find its way inside a small cloth packet nestled within three consecutive sized wallets. A minor sleight such as the shuttle pass will help you along to facilitate this amazing trick.

Product Quality

What you receive are three leather wallets each designed specifically for this trick. They are made out of real leather and appear to be durable enough to withstand constant use. The instructional DVD runs about 40 minutes long and covers everything from the basic handling, the sleight needed and a couple of routines. The production quality of the DVD is fair and will not win any Academy Awards but is thorough enough for you to go out on your own with this one.

Ad Copy Integrity

The ad copy is accurate and as an effect this is a great one. Where can you get such impact for such small real estate in your pocket.

This is a wonderful new set of props for the strolling professional. I almost want to say the demo video and DVD don’t do this thing justice because he takes the wallets out really quickly. You want to create the impression that it takes a LONG TIME to get the ring out of the three wallets. The fact the coin or ring is in the CENTER of a folded piece of silk at the end is icing on the cake.

The DVD does a good job showing the preparation for this, and showing it in real world use. I’m not fond of all of the ways it’s used, but the whole point of this product is that everyone is going to have a different routine for it.

The props themselves are examinable. Some magicians might not like the ‘look’ of the wallets, or wonder why a ring is ending up in a coin purse, and why you have three coin purses nested inside each other. This is purely a style choice. With all the different kinds of wallets and coin purses out there, I don’t think these draw any suspicion, although I can see how other performers could not like the ‘look’ of the wallets.

This is a rare product that I’ve rehearsed and used professionally. I use Richard Sanders “Any Ring” to vanish the ring, and do the ‘sneaky stuff’ while a spectator thinks they’re still holding onto the ring. The responses have been more than satisfactory. This is something I’ll be keeping in my case for larger tables in my restaurant work!

This is a worker’s dream. I love it, and I’m now using it. If you look at the demo and like what you see, chances are you’ll love and use this too.

When you perform this, people will think that you're Breaking The Law (Thank you Judas Priest) . . . the law of nature . . . (tongue firmly planted in cheek). All cheeky comments aside, this is a serious workhorse. For $55 bucks you get three genuine nesting leather wallets, a small cloth, a DVD and a really, really clever and powerful piece of magic.

Here's why you should definitely buy this (assuming the effect appeals to you):

  • First, the props are top quality. They'll last for years.

  • Second, the effect is powerful.

  • Third, the reset happens right in front of the audience in 5 seconds

  • Fourth, the whole package takes up about the same amount of space as a deck of cards

  • Fifth, you'll learn some cool ideas and routines on the DVD

  • Sixth, you can cause a borrowed ring, coin, dollar bill (anything small) to vanish and reappear in the nest of wallets.

As far as the product, the quality, etc. this thing is solid as a rock. You'll need to work the leather wallets a little bit before they're show-ready, but Einhorn covers that. Also, don't expect to pick this up and be doing it the same day - you should never do that anyway. You'll need to spend some time getting familiar with working the wallets. They are NOT gimmicked, but you'll have to get used to handling them properly.

The advertisement copy is very accurate. I do however, have a couple of minor complaints.

In the trailer, you'll notice some footage of the ring hooked onto a key ring and some other footage with what appears to be a ring and string routine. When watching the trailer I was very excited to learn those routines. When watching the DVD, I watched his full performance of both the ring on key-ring effect and his ring on string routine. They were both beautiful and had some clever and magical moments.

I was totally jazzed to watch the teaching session. But alas . . . much to my grand disappointment, the "teaching" on this portion was this: " . . . if you want to learn the ring on key-ring and/or ring on string routine, you can find that on my Pro-Flite DVD." That DVD just happens to cost $50 - I'll probably buy it because it looks awesome, so mission accomplished. If the footage wasn't shown in the trailer I wouldn't have mentioned it, but since it's in the trailer, one could very easily be mislead into believing that the routines where taught on the DVD - I was.

On the DVD, he shows you a couple of different ways to combine this effect with other routines such as the above. Another similar example is combining the routine with a bill switch. But he doesn't teach, show, expose or even briefly cover the bill switch. He does mention some good resources to learn it, however.

The problem I have with this is that basically he essentially says, "you can do this with other tricks" but doesn't really teach those other tricks. But he performs them. It just felt a little incomplete in that regard.

However, having said all that, even without those things, the basic routine, handling, teaching, props and effect are by far worth the mere $55 price of admission. Einhorn claims that this will be the most essential purchase you make this year . . . he just may be right.

Final Verdict:
4.5 Stars with a Stone Status of GEM!
