Overview
Street Magic Secrets is a 2 DVD set that is not a discontinued product. These trick cater to beginner magicians and are easy to learn. I do take issue with the title that these are Street Magic tricks because many of the tricks require a table and Penn films many of the tricks in the middle of a pedestrian mall with a transportable table. I do not believe that is street magic. Street magic is something that you can pull out of your pocket or wallet and amaze. The requirement of a table disqualified the trick as a street magic trick because no one has a portable table with them - except a magician filming a DVD for sale.Some of the tricks are really good and beginners will love it. Some of the tricks are not so great. When I was a novice I used to many of the tricks with matches and forks and cards (such as Do as I Do).
Effect
There are 25 different effects which transform a lottery ticket into cash, matches that disappear and re-appear in a match book case, rope tricks, gimmicked card tricks that require you to create a gimmick. A rubber band trick, card tricks and more.Method
The methods vary because there are so many tricks, but some require arts and crafts gimmick making, some require an assistant, some just require cards and as I said before, many of the tricks require a table to rest upon - for example, the glass through table trick that is in every beginner magic video I have ever seen.Product Quality
The quality of the DVD's do not stand the test of time. Today, videos are in HD and are produced much better than these DVD's. Back in the day that it was produced, the production quality was much better.Penn does a very good job in performing the tricks, explaining them and touching upon subtle points and gives good pointers for novices.
Ad Copy Integrity
The ad copy follows. I do not think you will be "spellbound". I also do not think that there is a "unique style" that Penn employs. A bit of puffery. He does a good job, but nothing I have not seen before a thousand times.This double DVD set is the perfect introduction to street magic hosted by award wining magician David Penn.
