Blood On The Tricks

Curzon, Roger

(Based on 1 review)
Roger Curzon is one of the UK's real hidden treasures in card magic. A creative mind like no other, Roger over the years has blown the minds of fellow magicians time and time again. Roger is a modest man but is well known to those around him as a true master of his art. This is the first volume of a series of tutorial DVDs where Roger reveals for the first time the true inner workings of his prized repertoire.

Blood on the Tricks was originally a book. Volume One includes performances and clear explanations of wonderful effects that Roger has developed throughout his career. Along with Roger's original material there is also his own take on some of the classics from past masters of magic! Roger has spent his life developing and mastering these routines and they are all explained here to make it easy for you!

This DVD as well as Roger's Miracle Signed Card in Envelope was an instant hit at this years Blackpool Magic Convention 2011.

You will learn:

Cutting the Kings
A remarkable way of cutting to the kings when the cards are thoroughly shuffled in a topsy-turvey fashion some face up and some face down with a triple surprise finish!

Rise Rise Rise
This trick is worth the price of the DVD alone and was a hit at the Blackpool Magic Convention 2011 it fooled every magician that watched us demo it! A chosen card is placed in the deck and a coin is signed and placed on a face up deck on an indifferent card. The deck is covered by the hands for a split second and instantly the card underneath the coin changes to the selected card. This also has a surprise finish!

Curzons Convincing Control
A really useful and clever way to control a card to the bottom of the deck while convincing the spectator that it has definitely gone in the center as they push the card in themselves!

Surprise Aces
A super routine whereby a chosen card multiplies itself four times and then all four cards instantly change to the four aces!

Variations Variant
Another great ace routine where a chosen card vanishes from the spectators own hands while also being trapped by the four aces only to reappear in the deck reversed!

Joker Sandwich
A card is taken out of the a red pack as a prediction which is sandwiched in between two blue backed Jokers. A spectator names ANY card only to find it is the one between the jokers!

Second Deal
Roger explains his amazing second deal in detail!

Pseudo Center Deal Routine
Roger explains how to apparently deal the aces from the center of the pack! If you want to do gambling exposes then you must learn this, you will love it!

Deck Reverse Supreme
Most people think that magicians sometimes reverse one card in a deck but Roger proves that actually a deck actually reverses itself around a card! This is really visual!

Coincidence in Millions
8 cards used, numbered Ace through to Eight. The spectator puts the cards into a random order. Roger then takes a calculator and asks spectator 1 to type in any 6 digit number and then asks spectator 2 to multiply it by any 4 digit number they think of. When the number is read out it matches the order the cards are in! Literally a coincidence in millions!

Wipe Out Queens Routine
A beautiful and complete routine where Roger finds the queens in some amazingly novel ways! A routine worth learning! (Ed - we use this trick all the time and the spectators just love it!)

Erdnase/ Miller Colour Change
You may have seen magicians change a card by swiping their hands over a deck, Roger shows you how to change two cards at the same time... just beautiful to watch!

Vernon's Cutting the Aces
Roger's handling a great gambling classic of magic!

Thanks to Vernon 4 Ace Production
A super visual way to cut to the aces from a shuffled deck in an incredibly fast four way split!

Running Time: Approximately 1 hr 23 mins

Finally, a DVD for about $30.00 that has more than 1 effect on it (12 to be exact), plus his work on the second deal, the one hand top palm and Curzon's Convincing Control. The DVD quality, audio, video, lighting and overall production quality is pretty solid.

Briefly, you'll get a solid collection of effects that range from self working to extremely difficult. Speaking of difficult, Mr. Curzon is really hard to watch. He never cracks a smile. His presentation (if you can call it that) is boring at best.

If, however, you can put that aside, I think you'll find a nice collection of material on here that has something you'll find interesting and even worth pursuing.

One last comment before taking a look at the individual effects. Much of the material is Curzon's take or handling on other people's material. In fact, you're probably familiar with some of the routines from the originators already.

On to the effects. You'll find a brief commentary and a star rating (1 is worst; 5 is best).

Cutting the Kings (2.5 stars)

This is a convoluted version of Martin Nash's Title Bout. It's a good effect, but I think Trost's is much better.

Rise, Rise, Rise (4.5 stars)

A very pretty color change of the face card on a deck that seems pretty darn impossible.

Surprise Aces (4 stars)

Not easy, but very effective and powerful magic, with the worst possible presentation. Ignore the presentation and learn the effect.

Variations Variant (2.5 stars)

The effect has potential, but he handling is ridiculously contrived and very fishy.

Joker Sandwich (3 stars)

I don't buy the switch at the end of this routine. However, I learned about a particular tool that has many applications for other things, and it can be purchased at a stationary store.

Pseudo Centre Deal Routine (2.5 stars)

A kind of boring gambling routine where you claim to to Center Deals, but really you're doing second deals.

Deck Reverse Supreme (3 stars)

A decent effect where the whole deck magically appears to be face up . . . essentially this is a color change effect with a few extras.

Coincidence in Millions (4.5 stars)

I think this is my favorite routine on the DVD. Only reason I didn't give it 5 full stars is because he didn't quite fully explain (in enough detail) how the calculator works. This is a prediction effect that seems impossible, and essentially, the spectator is the one who makes the prediction. You'll need a scientific calculator for the routine, and the best part . . . it's self working.

Wipe Out Queens Routine (2 stars)

Again . . . a killer-ly boring presentation . . . But an ok "find the four queens from a shuffled deck" routine with the usual . . . oops that's a nine, not a queen, so I'll count nine cards down . . . blah.

Erdnase/Miller Colour Change (4 stars)

This is very pretty, but it's not the Erdnase change . . . it's something else combined with the Miller Change. That aside, it is a beautiful color change of two cards at the exact same time. Very pretty.

Vernon's Cutting The Aces (3 stars)

Decent one handed cutting to the aces routine.

Thanks to Vernon - 4 Ace Production (3 stars)

Same as above but using both hands to do a one handed cut to the aces routine simultaneously. Not bad . . . but a bit sloppy looking.

The average rating of the effects is 3.2 stars. Taking the good price, the horrible presentations, the "lots of good ideas to pick from", and the solid production quality, I think I can give this one a final verdict of 3.5 stars with a Stone Status of gem.
