The Gathering

Dawes, Jamie and Forrest, Dave

Full 52 Productions

(Based on 2 reviews)
Your spectator chooses a playing card. You hand them a marker and have them sign their name right across it. You take out a hole punch and make two holes in one end of the card. You then borrow their finger ring and IMPOSSIBLY LINK THE RING THROUGH THE TWO PUNCHED HOLES!

YOU THEN HAND THEM THE CARD WITH THEIR RING STILL LINKED ONTO IT! IT IS REALLY ON THERE - IT'S JUST IMPOSSIBLE BUT THEIR OWN FINGER RING REALLY IS LINKED ON TO THEIR SIGNED CARD!

You finish by giving them back the ring in the only way you can - by tearing it back off the card which they may now keep as a souvenir. Jamie and Dave will walk you step by step through the process of prepping the card and then through every step of the handling - Jamie's 'through the top' penetration technique is what makes this effect really fly and all the handling details are thoroughly explained.

FREE BONUS EFFECT!
The Gathering also includes Jamie's incredible colour changing deck effect. A card is chosen from a blue backed deck. Suddenly - the back changes to red! So, you give a rub and change the rest of the deck red to match - problem solved! But wait - now the selection is blue again! Hang on - NOW THE ENTIRE DECK IS BLANK - BACK AND FRONT - EXCEPT FOR THE SELECTION!

Running Time Approximately: 1hr 5min

I must admit I was quite intrigued when I first read the description. After reading it my first thought was, "There is no way it looks that clean..."

I was wrong! It does look as good as it reads and as good as it looks in the demo.

There will be some arts and crafts involved and it can be lengthy to set up. Once you have done this more than a few times you can prepare 10 of the needed gimmicks in under 10 or 15 minutes. Either way, it is well worth the time. Some may already be well-versed in the skill/knack needed to prepare the cards and if so, that may reduce the overall preparation time. It is not difficult to do.

The effect is very strong because you are using a borrowed item (a ring - a valuable object in its own right, be it monetary, emotional, etc.), and a card that they sign. For all intents and purposes it looks like you do nothing but have a card selected and signed, borrow a ring, punch two holes in the card and link the ring onto it. Next, you briefly hand it out, then retrieve it and tear the ring off, handing everything out for examination.

The video production quality I think could have been slightly better but no matter - the instructions were very clear and thorough as Jamie and Dave do a very good job of teaching everything you need to know.

I have been wracking my brain for a way that will satisfactorily allow your participant to keep the card with the ring still linked on, which would be the ultimate desirable ending.

I have not found one yet. I have found ways to make the effect even stronger, such as making a bit of an artwork out of the card - I sign the card 'to' the participant 'from' me, add other symbols (asking them to do the same). At the end, I start the tear and allow them to finish tearing the ring off the card, which by my experience seems to be almost as strong as handing out in a permanently linked state because it strengthens the fact, in their minds, that the ring is really and truly linked onto the card.

The bonus effects are okay and do seem unfinished, but that can be the point from which the viewer takes them to the finish line. They both have some great points about them, but they both need endings.

If you want something that is fresh and different in your arsenal that packs a good punch with your spectators, does not take too much effort to set up and is rather easy to perform, this effect will not disappoint you!

This is a surprisingly refreshing effect. The plot is new to card magic as far as I’m concerned. You punch two holes in a signed card, and you link a spectator’s ring onto the card, and they can briefly examine it in this condition. While they can’t keep this strange object in this condition, they can keep the card once you tear their ring off.

The gimmick will take a fair amount of prep time, but this effect is really different, and worth the arts and crafts time you’ll spend before your gig. David Forrest makes sure that nothing is left out as Jamie Daws walks you through the construction and performance.

There are two bonus effects, one from Jamie and one from David. Jamie’s effect is a kind of color changing blank deck routine. David’s effect is a charming routine called “The Mind Reading Joker.” While I feel neither routine is completely finished, they both have interesting moments you may be able to incorporate in other ways.

Summary: If you don’t mind a slightly extensive set up, you will have a really unique effect in your arsenal.
