Two spectators are handed an object (say, a crumpled bill) and invited to play a game: one spectator will be the liar and one will tell the truth. While your head is turned, one of the two spectators takes the object. You, the mentalist, always know who the liar is, and which hand they are hiding the bill in. You can repeat the game indefinitely, and close by divining the serial number on the borrowed bill.
Prevaricator is unlike any DVD you have seen. The first thing you should know about Prevaricator is that it's the real deal. We've all encountered dealer ads where the trick is, shall we say, "loosely" like the description. Prevaricator really is unlike any DVD you've seen, it really is prop and gimmick free, and it really is a diabolical system for detecting a lying spectator.
As such, it will take no small amount of confidence and practice. The disc really shines in this regard as you're provided with ample practice sessions, filmed performances, and a session where Redford has recorded a commentary where he walks through each detail of the method as its performed.
But to learn this, you'll have to commit yourself to performing it. There's a lovely 100 page PDF on the disc that provides some strategies to make sure you don't completely fail, but here too you'll have to study and get plenty of flight time.
I'm also impressed with the overall quality of the package. It's not fancy, but there is such depth and well-planned instruction in evidence that it's clear Redford and Vanishing, Inc really do want you to learn Prevaricator. They're not just handing you a method and hoping you'll figure out the "real work," like so many products do.
Prevaricator isn't for everyone, but it's a bargain. The few who invest the time and effort required to master and present it will really have something special.
