Exorcism

Original Idea by Jon Maronge
EXORCISM is an effect that will leave your audience speechless. Get on your party hat to start this routine by telling your audience that you misplaced the deck of cards that you had been performing with earlier. Thank goodness you stopped by a friend's house on the way or else you wouldn't be able to perform a cool card trick that you had just learned. As the story goes, your friend is into some pretty strange stuff, and asked you to hold on to this box of cards for him. You promised that you would take it home and put it in a safe place. He was uttering something to you about a demon trapped inside and this house, blah, blah... as you interrupted him telling him you were going to be late for your event.
You use the deck (any normal deck), even though you have a feeling that you shouldn't (especially since he decided to include a bottle of holy water.) The Spectator chooses a card. What are the chances of them selecting the one card in the deck that the supposed demon had been trapped in? The Magician tries to find the card but can't no matter how hard he tries. The Magician comes to the conclusion that the Deck of Cards must be possessed by a demon. So, just to be on the safe side, you take the holy water and flings it at the Deck of cards. This is where things start going into a stranger direction. They notice something happening, not to the cards but on the wall behind the cards it has now started bleeding. The Magician determines that it is not the Deck that's possessed but the room itself. The Magician quickly start flinging the holy water against the wall. Everywhere the holy water hits the wall, it turns to blood and starts dripping down! Once that sets in, the name of the card appears written in blood on the wall.
That's Exorcism!

With David Mann’s Exorcism you receive, instructions, a plastic figurine bottle for your “holy water”, and the necessary ingredients to produce the blood. Your instructions are five and a half pages (single sided) of loose sheets of 8 ½ by 11 paper. Exorcism sounds like a very dark and mysterious piece of theater; however, the props and the script reduce this to a cheesy magic trick.
Essentially, you will have a card forced and then as you try to locate the card, you find that the deck or location is cursed. No problem, you have brought holy water. You fling the water around and a bloody message appears on the wall and it reveals the selected card. In my opinion, if you are going to have bloody messages appear, I would like to be about something more relevant than a selected card.
Additionally, I would hesitate to start flinging holy water around and making bloody messages appear on someone’s wall as this would be a really quick way to find yourself escorted out of the establishment.
Now the good news. You could rewrite the script and come up with a more compelling reason why a bloody message would appear. The chemicals do work and it looks great, you don’t have to have them appear on a wall. They could appear anywhere.
Bottom line, if you don’t know how to make bloody hand prints or messages appear this could be a nice purchase for you. If you are looking for a well thought out trick with a script and nice props . . . . move along.
